Glasgow Clyde Marathon. Sunday 28th August 2016

Newton Train Station – Dumbarton Train Station.

26.2 car free miles through Glasgow parklands via River Clyde, River Kelvin and Forth Clyde Canal footpaths.

The last 26.2mile Glasgow Marathon was run in 1988. It is almost 30 years since our great city had a full length marathon.

Glasgow was built on the industry of the River Clyde, the intellect of the River Kelvin and the transportation of the Forth Clyde Canal. Now is the time for us to celebrate our city’s 3 great waterways with the return of a full length marathon in Glasgow, covering 26 CAR FREE miles along the riverside footpaths of the River Clyde, River Kelvin and Forth Clyde Canal.

Along the way you go past some of Glasgow’s main tourist attractions:

Kelvingrove Museum, Riverside Museum, SEC Hydro, Science Centre, Tall Ship, Glasgow University, People’s Palace, Glasgow Green, Botanic Gardens, a whisky distillery, 4 whisky bonds and best of all… almost a dozen pubs!

Is there a more public transport friendly point to point marathon?
Newton train station to Dumbarton East train station.

To allow the majority of athletes and family from West Central Scotland to get to the race start by train, we will start the race at 10.30am.

No point in starting and finishing next to 2 train stations if we don’t make make use of them.
